December: The Grand Finale Nobody Rehearsed For

Ah, December. The month that tiptoes into our calendars wearing fairy lights, humming festive jingles, and whispering, “Surprise! The year is ending… again.” It’s almost rude how quickly it arrives, especially when most of us are still emotionally stuck in March—of some year, we’re not sure which.
But December doesn’t care. It stands tall like a season finale, complete with plot twists, guest appearances, and the annual cliffhanger: “What will you do next year?”
Excitement? Sure. Panic? Also yes.
Let’s be honest: December comes with a strange cocktail of excitement and mild existential dread. On one hand, there’s the thrill of new beginnings—new opportunities, fresh planners, and resolutions so optimistic that even your inner critic sighs and says, “Acha, try kar lo.”
You begin listing resolutions you think you’ll follow:
Wake up earlier.
Eat healthier.
Be more organised.
Not argue with strangers on the internet.
By the time you finish writing, you deserve a round of applause… and a nap.
New year, new me? Or new year, same Netflix plan?
December whispers promises of reinvention, but let’s not forget that this is also the month when we magically remember everything we did not accomplish. Suddenly that gym membership you paid for in January becomes the villain of your story. That unread book pile judges you from the shelf. And that one ambitious goal you set—well, let’s say it’s now a goal for 2026.
But hey, December is forgiving. It lets you laugh at yourself, shake your head, and say, “Next year, pakka.” And the best part? It believes you.
Nostalgia: December’s favourite emotional weapon
Of course, no December is complete without a walk down memory lane. Some moments make you smile, some make you cringe, and some leave you wondering how you survived on so little sleep and so much tea.
You remember tiny wins you forgot to celebrate and big challenges you somehow managed to outsmart. You realise the year wasn’t perfect—far from it—but it was yours. And surprisingly, that feels… nice.
The Great December Moodboard
Here’s what December usually looks like:
You making grand plans
You pretending to be calm
You frantically finishing work
You eating plum cake to cope
You staring at your phone like it has life answers
And yet, December has a soft side. It wraps you in warm lights, good food, and a gentle push that says, “Go on. You made it this far. Celebrate that.”
So how do I feel about December?
Honestly? It feels like a warm hug from a slightly sarcastic friend who says, “You didn’t do everything, but you did enough. Now smile for the photos.”
December makes me excited. It makes me nostalgic. It makes me hopeful. It makes me roll my eyes at my own resolutions. And above all, it reminds me that every ending—no matter how chaotic—is just a beautifully disguised beginning.
So cheers to December.
The finale we didn’t rehearse for, but somehow still manage to pull off every single year.
